Tip 20 — Exploit the wide sideline with early angle creation

When you receive a dink near the sidelines, your instinct is often to return it safely down the line or cross-court to the center. Instead, treat the wide angle as a geometry problem. By taking the ball slightly earlier on the rise and opening your wrist outward, you create an acute cross-court angle that forces your opponent off the court entirely.

This early contact point requires zero extra power. You are simply redirecting their incoming momentum toward the vacant sideline. Because the court expands diagonally, a sharp angle hit from wide to wide travels a greater distance and buys you precious tenths of a second to establish your own court position.

Watch your opponent as you execute this. If their weight is even slightly shifted toward the center, the wide angle is exposed. Decode their positioning before you strike, redirect the ball cleanly to the sideline, and watch their defensive structure collapse.
