Tip 10 — Exploit the transition zone with low drives

When opponents move from the baseline toward the kitchen, they enter the transition zone with their momentum carrying them forward. This is the exact moment to alter your strategy from soft dinking to a low, flat drive targeted directly at their feet. Because they are moving, their center of gravity is unstable and making a clean volley is mechanically difficult.

The objective is not necessarily to hit a clean winner past them, but rather to force an awkward defensive block that pops up. Aim for a target zone roughly knee-high as it crosses the net, which guarantees the ball will dip downward as it reaches them. A player caught mid-step cannot easily redirect pace, meaning any block they manage will likely land softly inside your kitchen.

Integrate this pattern into your next match by watching your opponents' feet instead of the ball during their approach. The moment both players are in motion between the baseline and the NVZ line, abandon patience and accelerate through the ball. By decoding their movement, you turn their forward momentum into your primary tactical advantage.
